273 Mitsubishi Evos, one broken world record
Wednesday, August 20th, 2008
At the Castle Combe Racing Circuit in Wiltshire England on Saturday July 12, the Mitsubishi Lancer Register (MLR) broke the world record for the biggest parade of Evos. This parade, however, unlike the normal confetti and floats affair, was a two-mile drive for all the attending Evo owners around the aforementioned racing circuit at a constant speed and in color-coordinated order. Laura Farmer of Guinness World Records was on hand and at 5:27 p.m. she officially confirmed that this parade of Evos was the largest in history.
Just one look at the pictures and it’s obvious that this parade was an impressive automotive spectacle. Not to mention a serious auditory experience considering all of the turbocharged four bangers with cannon-sized exhausts. Getting all 273 Evos ordered by color was probably no easy task either.
On top of setting a new world record, the event also raised over 7400 euros (about $11,785) for the Richard Burns Foundation. This foundation, named after the former World Rally champion who died at 34 of brain cancer, is dedicated to helping people with serious injury or illness. This looks like a job well done by MLR and hopefully this isn’t the last event organized by them.

In The Garage: a short blast in the 2008 Mitsubishi Evo X GSR
Wednesday, June 4th, 2008
I’ve finally had a chance to slide my fat behind into the driver’s seat of Mitsubishi’s much awaited Evo X. Unfortunately, time only allowed a very short blast through mid day Toronto traffic, but it was enough to make a bit of a comparison with the Subaru STi following a similar short trip in that monster machine.
Our ride today was a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR, with the 5 speed manual. The car is a pre production model that is destined for the mandatory crushing that PT units receive after they’ve been flogged repeatedly by anyone who has the opportunity. This particular car has seen media road tests, track days and heavy road use. The clutch is releasing fairly high in the travel due to many, many drivers launching it hard. Still, the drivetrain hooks up and leaves no question as to the potential of the beast.
The first thing you notice when getting behind the wheel is the track ready Recaro seats. The side and thigh bolsters are substantial and promise to hold one tightly in place during high speed cornering. They might be a little extreme for some drivers, as they are quite narrow and one must be careful not to injure one’s sack while lifting legs over the lower bolster. As a fat guy, I found the seats just right, but I’m sure someone somewhere will not find them comfy.

In 2005, Mitsubishi introduced a concept version of the next-gen Evolution at the 39th Tokyo Motor Show named the Concept-X.
Mitsubishi unveiled a second concept car, the Prototype-X, at the 2007 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).
The Lancer Evolution X sedan will feature a newly designed 4B11T 2.0 L turbocharged, all-aluminum Straight-4 engine. Power and torque depend on the market (North American version: 291 hp (217 kW) and 290 lbf·ft, Japanese version: 291 hp (217 kW) and 213 lbf·ft, UK version: 200 bhp at 6500 rpm, 231 lbf·ft at 3500 rpm). Two versions of the car will be offered in the U.S. The Lancer Evolution MR, with 6-speed Twin Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST). The other version is the GSR which will have a 5-speed manual transmission system. The car has also a new full-time four-wheel drive system named S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control), an advanced version of Mitsubishi’s AWC system used in previous generations. The S-AWC uses torque vectoring technology to send different amount of torque to any wheel at any given time.

Lancer Evolution X Press Release
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008PRESS RELEASE
Tokyo, October 1, 2007 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announces today that it will launch the Lancer Evolution X high-performance 4WD sedan, newest of the company’s legendary vehicles, on October 1 at dealerships throughout Japan. Featuring a new platform, engine, and exterior and interior designs, the totally redesigned 2.0-liter model will carry a tax-inclusive price tag ranging from \2,997,750 to \3,750,600. Models fitted with the Twin Clutch SST transmission are due to be launched towards the end of November.
The development goal for the new Lancer Evolution X was to make the car as fast as possible, while also making it as safe to drive as possible. To that end Lancer Evolution X is loaded with the very latest in automotive engineering technology, including the S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) vehicle dynamics control system and the newly developed, power-efficient Twin Clutch SST (Sport Shift Transmission). Lancer Evolution X is a new-generation high-performance 4WD sedan that allows a new category of driver access to Mitsubishi’s dynamic driving experience by underpinning speed with control, security and safety.
* Lancer Evolution X’s handsome and aggressive functional design presents an intimidating and exciting aerodynamic exterior suggestive of its superior road performance. This is complemented by a functional interior that encourages the driver to concentrate fully on piloting his machine. Lancer Evolution X uses the front end design identity common to all new Mitsubishi Motors sedans (inverted-slant nose with a trapezoidal grille design) first seen on the new Galant Fortis*. As well as shouting loud the aggressive qualities that mark a high performance sports sedan, the front fascia is crafted for optimum aerodynamic performance.
