Mitsubishi adds EVO X GSR Premium to Japanese lineup

October 15th, 2008

For the 2009 model year, Mitsubishi in Japan has tweaked the Evolution with a slightly revised instrument cluster and center console, along with offering a GSR Premium model that pulls all the right kit from the range-topping MR model.

Included in the package is a set of 18-inch BBS wheels, color-matched fender scoops, fog lamps and Bilstein shocks, while inside a pair of leather swathed Recaros and a Rockford Fosgate sat-nav audio system with nine speakers rounds out the Premium model.

Prices for the GSR Premium are set at 4,798,500 with the five-speed manual, while the Twin-Clutch SST model will set our friends across the Pacific back 5,050,000 yen.

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X Race Car Debuts at Britcar

September 24th, 2008

Evo X Race Car
Mitsubishi Motors UK’s race-prepared Lancer EVO X made its racing debut in this weekend’s Britcar event at the Silverstone circuit. The EVO X, which was co-developed with ADR Motorsport developing around 400 HP, proved itself by completing the 24-hour endurance race. Driven by Mitsubishi UK’s managing director and former BTCC driver James Kaye along with Andy Barnes, Mark Lemmer and Jay Wheals, the team crossed the line fifth in class and 25th overall after covering a race-distance of 517 laps and 1,651 miles.

Ready-to-race Mitsubishi Evolution X, one-make series planned

September 17th, 2008

This weekend, Mitsubishi will return to the circuit with a race-prepped Evolution X competing in the 24-hour Britcar Championship and piloted by former BTCC ace James Kaye, along with two other unnamed drivers. The Evo has been given its competition work-over with the help of ADR Motorsport, the same firm that currently campaigns two works Mitsubishis in the British Rally Championship. A number of undisclosed tweaks have pumped up the 4B11T/C, delivering around 400 hp to the Evo’s all-wheel-drive system.

If the ADR Evo meets expectations, Mitsubishi would consider making a dedicated Evo X series. According to Paul Brigden, General Manager for Ralliart, “Mitsubishi UK has not been involved with circuit racing for many years, so this new initiative is a great opportunity for us.”

Racing will get underway on Saturday, and Kaye plans to compete in the full 2009 Britcar Championship, along with a handful of other endurance races throughout the year. Press release after the jump.

Mitsubishi releases ambiguous teaser ahead of Paris debut

September 16th, 2008

Mitsubishi has announced its Paris Motor Show line-up, and along with the world debut of the Lancer Sportback and the Dakar-ready Racing Lancer, it has provided a tease of an unnamed model/concept.

The image above doesn’t give us any clear indication about what Mitsubishi will be showing off, but the new face of Mitsu is present and accounted for, along with a set of toned-down headlamps that blend the automaker’s slanted lenses with round lights.

We won’t know anything definitive until Mitsubishi’s press conference on October 2nd, but speculation ranges from the production version of the Concept cX to the new Colt. Stay tuned and check Mitsubishi’s press release after the jump.

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart

September 15th, 2008

SEATTLE, WA - September 6, 2008: Affordable performance. That’s the key to the Lancer Ralliart for 2009. While its big brother, the Lancer EVO will knock your socks off, this $26K hot little sedan will certainly peel them off. We took our cameras inside to hear all about it from Mitsubishi Manager of Product Strategy, Bryan Arnett.

The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart is the latest in a long line of high-performance 4-wheel drive (4WD) Mitsubishi models. The Lancer Ralliart All-Wheel Control (AWC) system is based on the Mitsubishi Active Center Differential (ACD), which uses an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch center differential to distribute drive torque between the front and rear wheels in response to driving conditions. The system is controlled by the AWC computer, which takes input from a variety of engine and wheel speed sensors, G-force sensors and steering angle sensor information. The AWC computer uses a proprietary Mitsubishi algorithm to calculate action of the ACD unit in response to road conditions. The ACD provides an excellent balance between steering response and traction characteristics and allows the driver to set system response parameters using a “Tarmac, Gravel, Snow” selector. The ACD is essentially the same that was used in the previous-generation Lancer Evolution (Evolution IX in other markets.) Likewise, the helical limited-slip front and mechanical limited-slip front rear differentials are adapted from the previous-generation Lancer Evolution. (The new-generation Lancer Evolution, in comparison, is equipped with the Super All-Wheel Control system featuring both the Active Center Differential and the Active Yaw Control torque-vectoring rear differential.)
